Help with Laroche search?

Hi Debra, I am the person who contacted you regarding the Laroche family. Looking at all of the name linked to them on your blog page makes me think this line may be related to mine. I am looking for someone with ties to Marguerite Laroche (dite Bria? ) who married Casimir Guerin. Thanks

Tuesdays Tip

If you are anything like me you have boxes, drawers or albums full of pictures! I know ; we all mean to organize them and identify them SOMEDAY..my advice don't wait that long! Bake a cake, put on a pot of coffee..send out dinner invitations...get family together and spread all your photos out on the table and start talking! I was lucky my grandfather was so thrilled that I was interested in the photos that he gave me every one he ever found. His main interests were his service days at Fort Ethan Allen in Winooski Vt. I would have never known what those photos meant to him! Or that the guard contingent in one was around...Charles Lindbergh's' plane! He had a copy of my fathers high school photo ( the other was torn up in anger years ago)..so much information! Make sure you get archival pens specifically for writing on the backs of photos. Most camera shops carry them. Never try and peel photos off that are stuck to a page! re photograph them where they are or better yet scan them! We have had amazing luck with just a point and shoot Canon! Jot down or maybe record anecdotes..family stories..when its gone its gone! There are still so many things I would have loved to know! Who's in that tin type in the desk drawer? Who is the woman in the photo BEHIND gramp's photo that said " all my Love Mary?" Yes check behind the photos in cardboard frames..I have found 2 surprises that way! Happy Tuesday!

Visit with Aunt Claire

We went and had a lovely visit with Aunt Claire yesterday. She looks good and we chatted about many things and her response to childhood sounds was the lovely old bells on St Francis church in Winooski. You could hear them all over town 3 times a day, at some point they stopped using them (cracked?) and replaced them with something that she says do not sound as beautiful. Terry (Parker) says he remembers the ice truck coming to deliver to his Uncles downstairs apartment.
Anyone else have a favorite sound?

SOUNDS – 52 WEEKS OF PERSONAL GENEALOGY & HISTORY

Can you describe a sound that reminds you of your childhood? The slam of a screen door? A train whistle? The fire alarm in town? Church bells? What is your memory of childhood linked to a sound that makes you stop and "feel" when you hear it now?

"Amanuensis Monday"

These are stories collected from the memories of our beloved "Aunt Claire" ( Claire Chase Bouffard) about her family. Maybe some of you would be consider writing down your family stories? It's a joy and a treasure for other family members to have!

Rodolphe

Of the Beaudoin-Laroche children, Rodolphe had the distinction of having the most children.
Four of his ten children died in early childhood. His six surviving children placed him in a tied position with his sister, Ruth, in having the most children to reach adulthood.
After he and his wife, Mabel Desautels, moved their family from Winooski to the mouth of the river in Burlington, their contact with the rest of the Beaudoin clan were less frequent, as all of his siblings, save Eva, lived within walking distance of each other. Rodolphe did not have a car.
Rodolphe’s wife, Mabel, died in 1942, leaving him with a houseful of young children to raise.
He tried, with the help of his two oldest children, to keep the family together, but it soon became evident that this was not in the children’s best interests. The family was separated. The two oldest were old enough to fare for themselves since they were old enough to work. The youngest were added to the families of Rodolphe’s brothers and sisters.
Azarias went to Séverin (the son), Reginald went to Ruth, Pauline to Amanda, Theodore to Napoleon and Joyce to Estelle. In this way all of the children remained connected to the family.
Sadly, only months later, Joyce died leaving a huge void in Estelle’s family that took a long time to heal.

Photo Tip

I have had surprisingly good luck merely copying photos with a point and shoot digital camera,
and then doing a quick run through a photo program to adjust the brightness and levels. This is not anywhere near as complicated as it sounds! We have a Canon and a Nikon both in the $100-$200 range, almost all of them come with photo software of some sort. Free program trials are available on the internet as is http://picasa.google.com/ This a free photo program anyone can use easily!
So give it a try! You will be amazed at what you might get away with! No "borrowing" photos! The
photos in the banner and in the posts were all done that way! If you really want to play there are some really cool digital scrap booking sites that carry all the Frames and elements I used to make these really fancy! This one is terrific for genealogy sites! http://www.heritagescrap.com/
Have fun and come show us what you did!

Talented Tuesday

Stephanie Brown is the daughter of David and Amanda Brown,,Claire (Bouffard) Chase's daughter! Many of the Bouffard women had talent and I thought it might be nice to showcase the younger generation this time! Stephanie lives in Alaska with her family and is quite good at drawing! This is a few of them! Any one else have a talented family member they want to introduce?

Shopping Saturday 2

This is a close up image of Ruth outside of the store with a pet bird of hers. Does anyone else have pictures of the store or memories of shopping in either one as a kid?

Shopping Saturday

This first image is of my husband Terrance Parker and his parents in front of their Winooski , Vermont pet store. Terry and his older brother "Skip" (Edward) ran the pet store next to the Parker IGA.
Father is Edward Parker and mom is Ruth (Bouffard) Parker. Animals were a big part of both stores. Ed had a cat; and a bird that embarrassed him from time to time by swearing or whistling at the customers!
